Carefully Crafted
Step 1: Inspiration.
The Disney parks and resorts are a seemingly endless source of inspiration. I select the subjects that speak to me as a life-long enthusiast with a focus on mid-century, bold and atmospheric themes, and usually something a little niche.
Once I have a source of inspiration, the process begins with in-depth research on the topic and the design aesthetic I want to draw from. Sometimes it is mid-century ads, original Disneyland attraction posters, World's Fair posters, or any other traditionally screen printed designs.
Step 2: Design.
The design begins with a rough understanding of the most critical elements being illustrated and the general layout being defined, including typography. All of the designs are created in Vectorworks.
This is an iterative process of drawings, roughing in a layout, drawing some more, refining the layout, and creating a first draft completed poster. From there, the artwork simmers for a few days or weeks to notice elements are aren't working correctly or could use adjustments.
Step 3: Prepare for Printing.
Once a design is complete, the final graphics and colors must be prepped for the silk screen printing process. This includes cleaning up and artifacts in the digital drawing and selecting the appropriate Pantone colors to help the printers hand mix their inks.
Step 4: Printing.
A custom silk screen is created for each color used in the print. Each color is then applied layer by layer building up to the finished design.
The inks used are mixed by hand using base colors to achieve the perfect tone.
All designs are printed with professional-grade water-based inks on French Paper.
Acme Prints has been perfecting their craft for the last 25 years. Their skills and techniques add a personal human touch to each print.
Step 5: Making it Yours.
Each prints is personally inspected, signed, and numbered before being shipped to you. The prints are hand rolled and shipped in oversized 4" tubing to reduce any impacts from shipping.
These prints are not products to be manufactured and sold, they are pieces of a shared passion for the Disney parks and resorts that we have the honor of sending to you.
